Crochet hooks sizes US M/N (9mm) and US N (10mm) (I crochet on the tight side so I find these sizes work best for me; if you crochet more loosely you might find that a combination of smaller sizes is better for you.)
CC (Contrast Color)-Worsted weight, DK, sport weight (medium, 3), or several strands of light weight yarns held together – 110 yards (330 feet)
F (Fun Fur) or novelty yarn – 20 yards (60 feet)
With smaller hook and one strand of MC and F held together, chain 12.
Row 1: DC in 4th chain from hook (counts as 2 DC), and in each chain across-10DC. Chain 3, turn.
Row 2: DC in 2nd DC and each DC across, DC in top of turning chain-10DC. Chain 3, turn.
Repeat Row 2 to desired length (I find 6 rows gives a nice “look” to the finished scarf), working the last DC until 2 loops remain on the hook. Clip F (leaving several inches to weave in later) and with one strand each of MC and CC held together, YO and pull through remaining 2 loops on hook.
Row 1: Switch to larger hook and continuing with one strand each of MC and CC held together, chain 1 and turn. SC in 2nd DC and each DC across, SC in top of turning chain-10 SC. Chain 3, turn.
Row 2: (DC, chain 1, DC) in 2nd SC (V-stitch made), (skip next 2 SC, V-stitch in next SC) twice, skip next SC, DC in top of turning chain. Chain 3, turn.
Row 3: V-stitch in each chain l space of the previous row, DC in top of turning chain. Chain 3, turn.
Repeat Row 3 until the scarf measures approximately 56” (or 60” minus the length of the 1st end; this is usually 56-60 pattern rows, depending on the bulk of the yarns). Chain 1, turn.
Row 4: SC in both DC and chain 1 space of 1st V-stitch, SC in 1st DC of 2nd V-stitch, SC2tog over next chain 1 space and DC, SC in both DC and chain 1 space of 3rd V-stitch, insert hook in top of turning chain and draw up a loop. Clip CC (leaving several inches to weave in later) and with one strand each of MC and F held together, YO and pull through both loops-10 SC.
Row 1: Switch to smaller hook and continuing with one strand of MC and F held together, chain 3 and turn. DC in 2nd SC and each SC across, DC in turning chain-10 DC. Chain 3, turn.
Row 2: DC in 2nd DC and each DC across, DC in top of turning chain.
Repeat Row 2 until 2nd end has the same number of rows as 1st end, fasten off. Weave in all ends.
