What a day! We shipped about 1,720 beautiful comfort scarves to 50 shelters for abused women in S CA. Our Long Beach, San Fernando Valley, and San Diego affiliates all shipped to their shelters, which brings the total to almost 2,000 scarves. Really incredible.
Great job everyone. We couldn't have done this without your participation. Look for what you did on the list below:
Yarn companies and individuals who donate the yarn we all made into scarves;
Kit makers who wind the yarn into our wonderful magic balls;
June Grossberg, owner of Concepts in Yarn, who hosts our group and provides bins for magic balls and finished scarves;
Paula Weiner, who pre-measures all the novelty yarn for the magic balls;
Sharon Long, who winds skeins of yarn into balls that we can turn into kits;
Knitters and crocheters, who actually make the scarves from our kits;
Knitters and crocheters, who make scarves from their own yarn;
Bea Abshear, who adds fringe to scarves that need a little decoration;
Ann Nye, who oversees our website, magic ball production, shipping, and keeps our financial records;
Chris Needham, who opens all the boxes of scarves and yarn sent by donors from all over the US;
All the wrappers, who make sure every scarf meets our specs and has a gift tag before we actually ship the scarf to a shelter;
FedEx, which ships all our scarves (ground, of course) and gives us a break in the cost because Handmade is a non-profit charity;
Lori Jeskey, who advises us about our website;
Karen Whitehead, who manages our Facebook presence;
Generous donors who contribute $$$$;
And all of you who do so many things for Handmade that I may have forgotten to mention.
THANK YOU!
2,000 scarves is a big accomplishment. Give yourself a big pat on the back.
Now that we're done with January, it's time to turn our attention to February. The shipping in February will be much smaller, but we have to start all over knitting, crocheting, measuring, winding, and wrapping to get ready.
Please contribute. We reach our goal one scarf at a time.
Thanks in advance,
Love,
Leslye
