What you need:
-
Size 15 or 17 needles
-
2 balls of yarn with similar weights (at least 4-ply weight) and coordinating colors, but maybe different textures, consisting of:
-
Yarn A: Solid colored yarn about 210 feet
-
Yarn B: Contrasting yarn about 140 feet
-
2 mini balls of fun fur or other novelty yarn, each about 25 feet
Directions:
Holding Yarn A and one mini ball of novelty yarn together, cast on*** 12 stitches on size 15 needles, 10 stitches on size 17 needles, or few enough stitches to make a scarf at least 4 inches wide but not wider than 5-inches.
Knit until you use up the fun fur, stopping at the end of a row (not in the middle). Do not cut Yarn A. Move Yarn A to the back.
Attach Yarn B. Knit 2 rows. Do not cut. Move Yarn B to the back.
Knit 2 rows with Yarn A. Move Yarn A to the back.
Knit 2 rows with Yarn B.
Continue in the same manner until the scarf measures 60-inches in length less the amount you knitted with Yarn A and novelty yarn at the beginning of the scarf. Stop Yarn B and cut.
Pick up Yarn A. Attach the second mini ball or novelty yarn. Continue knitting every row with the Yarn A and novelty yarn combination until you almost use up the yarn. Leave enough yarn to cast off.
Cast off. Weave in ends.
Please sign your first name on the Handmade tag and attach it to your scarf.
** Many knitters find that the cable cast on works particularly well for scarves. It is very firm and it looks just like the cast off. I think you will like it too.
