♥We make "comfort" scarves and distribute them to shelters for abused women.
♥We tie each scarf with a ribbon and provide a note signed by the giver. Often this is the first gift ever received by the recipient.
♥In 2020, we made 9786 scarves, 2392 hats, plus 981 baby items
and shipped to 70+ shelters for abused women in Southern and Central
♥Since we started in October 2008, we have distributed over 143,541 scarves and 12,644 hats (plus 3273 baby items), but we have barely scratched the surface of the need.
♥Please help us by knitting or crocheting “comfort scarves.” We supply free yarn!

WE'RE FINALLY GETTING TOGETHER
Fully vaccinated Handmade volunteers began meeting up for lunch at Leslye's house - once in June and again in July (you can see the photos by clicking the photo gallery tab). But, with the added precautions to counter the COVID Delta variant, we stopped our indoor luncheons.
In August, we did a Coffee and Bagel meet-up in the park, but we forgot to take a photo. We plan to meet-up again in September and we will capture a photo to share with you.

This is our new COVID-19 normal!
Instead of working at Leslye's house to wind "Magic Ball" kits or wrap scarfs, the new "COVID-19 normal" is for us to pick up at Leslye's house, do the work at our house and then return to Leslye.
Here's Leslye giving "Magic Ball" kits for Ann to wind -- you can see Ann's reflection in the window taking a picture of Leslye.
DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS, our locations to pickup Magic Ball kits has changed.
If you need kit pickup locations or want to get on our contact list, please email Leslye Borden at firstname.lastname@example.org
Follow Leslye's guidelines for Michael's parking lot pick-ups and drop-offs on Wednesday's 4:30-5:00 pm:
Stay at least 6 feet apart from each other, no matter how happy we are to see each other. If you’re dropping off scarves, keep them in a bag that you put 6 feet away from me. Then I will put the bags of kits 6 feet away from me so you can pick out the kits you want. It is very important to keep 6 feet apart. If I get too close to you, please back up. If you get too close to me, I will back up.
So far, no Handmade member has come down with this virus and we want it to stay that way!
Wear a mask, bandana, or other face protection
Once you return home, wash your hands immediately.
Check out our calendar page for when we make Magic Balls, meet at Michael's, and wrap and/or ship scarves to shelters.
You can knit with us and pick up Magic Balls at Michael’s on Wednesday's (4:30-6:30 pm) or pick up Magic Balls at the following locations:
Silver Nails 2040 Pacific Coast Hwy, Lomita CA (just east of Narbonne)
Anza Pacific Barber Salon 4330 Pacific Coast Hwy, Torrance CA (in the same shopping center as Michael’s, at the H Mart side of the shopping center)
YMCA 2900 Sepulveda Torrance CA; ask for Susan Babila at the membership desk; she’s there Sunday through Thursday, 12-8 pm
