We need Knitters and Crocheters!
We need Yarn!
| |
|
♥ We make "comfort" scarves and distribute them to shelters for abused women.
♥ We tie each scarf with a ribbon and provide a note signed by the giver. Often this is the first gift ever received by the recipient.
♥ In 2022, we made 12,230 scarves,1335 hats, plus 300 baby items
and shipped to 70+ shelters for abused women in Southern and Central
California.
♥ Since we started in October 2008, we have distributed over 167,240 scarves and 15,610 hats (plus 4000 baby items), but we have barely scratched the surface of the need.
♥ Please help us by knitting or crocheting “comfort scarves.” We supply free yarn!

WE'RE FINALLY GETTING TOGETHER
Fully vaccinated Handmade volunteers began meeting up for lunch at Leslye's house - once in June and again in July (you can see the photos by clicking the photo gallery tab). But, with the added precautions to counter the COVID Delta variant, we stopped our indoor luncheons.
In August, we did a Coffee and Bagel meet-up in the park, but we forgot to take a photo. We plan to meet-up again in September and we will capture a photo to share with you.

This is our new COVID-19 normal!
Instead of working at Leslye's house to wind "Magic Ball" kits or wrap scarfs, the new "COVID-19 normal" is for us to pick up at Leslye's house, do the work at our house and then return to Leslye.
All our volunteers participate in different ways:
- The measurers, measure Bs and fun fur and novelty yarn
- The winders wind the Magic Ball kits you love
- The knitters and crocheters make the comfort scarves and hats
- The wrappers check to make sure the scarves are “perfect,” have signed gift tags, and wrap each scarf with curling ribbon
- The shippers pack and seal the boxes
And there are many more participants—gift tag makers, hole punchers, bookkeepers, Facebook administrators, Website administrators, pick up and delivery volunteers, just to name a few of the people who do the jobs that make Handmade Especially for You possible.

DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS, our locations to pickup Magic Ball kits has changed.
If you need kit pickup locations or want to get on our contact list, please email Leslye Borden at handmade.leslye@gmail.com
Follow Leslye's guidelines for Michael's parking lot pick-ups and drop-offs on Wednesday's 4:30-5:00 pm:
Stay at least 6 feet apart from each other, no matter how happy we are to see each other. If you’re dropping off scarves, keep them in a bag that you put 6 feet away from me. Then I will put the bags of kits 6 feet away from me so you can pick out the kits you want. It is very important to keep 6 feet apart. If I get too close to you, please back up. If you get too close to me, I will back up.
So far, no Handmade member has come down with this virus and we want it to stay that way!
Wear a mask, bandana, or other face protection
Once you return home, wash your hands immediately.
